Triathlon BC Performance Pathway Early Season Mileage camp

Triathlon BC is hosting an early season mileage camp in Victoria BC February 19-24th with the option to join in for a local group ride on Saturday 25 th before traveling home. The purpose of an early season mileage camp is to inject an athlete’s training cycle with a block of high volume training hours early enough in the season to allow time to recover before begin outdoor training. While Victoria can be a bit grey and wet, it is reliably snow free and the venues for cycling and running are excellent in February.

This camp is specifically targeted to Juniors aged 18-19 and U23 athletes with significant training backgrounds.

Out of province athletes are welcome to join the camp and escape the snow!

Venues:
Swimming will take place on February 19, 20, 21, 22, 24th at the University of Victoria campus. The University of Victoria is a beautiful campus with an excellent track, multiple running trails a
great accessibility to good cycling.

Victoria has amazing riding throughout the city and surrounding areas. The camp will have most of it cycling workouts focused in and around the University of Victoria, Gordon Head and
Saanich.

Running workouts will be held at the University of Victoria, Elk/Beaver Lake and Layritz park.

These venues offer great access to finely crushed gravel trails which are perfect for adding mileage and minimizing fatigue/injury.

Schedule:
A tentative schedule is below, this may be subject to slight changes.

February 18th
– Out of town athletes arrive in Victoria BC

February 19th
– Athletes meet for a morning group bike at 9am. This ride will be easy to aerobic, allowing everyone to get to know each other. This ride will range from 2-3hrs depending on athletes training level.
– 2-3:30pm, aerobic volume swim at UVic
– 4-4:30pm, a short easy run. Coaches will have an opportunity to assess the groups run form and ability

February 20th
– 7:30-8:30am, Swim at Uvic: easy technical focus
– 9-11am, aerobic bike from UVic pool with technical cornering practice
– 4-5pm run at Beaver lake, technical focus

February 21st
– 8:30-9:30am Swim at UVic, focus on short speed
– 2:30-4:30pm aerobic volume bike with run off focused on short speed

February 22nd
– 7-8:30am swim focused on strength and volume
– 9-9:30am easy run at UVic
– 2-3:30pm Bike strength hills

February 23rd
– Optional rest or easy group volume bike depending on athletes’ fitness and fatigue levels

February 24th
– 7:30-8:30am swim at UVic focused on strength and volume
– 9-11am easy volume bike from Uvic
– 3-4:15pm Run workout Beaver Lake

February 25th
– This is an optional “add-on” day and not officially part of the camp. In Victoria on Saturday mornings many athletes jump into the OBB group ride which separates into a few different groups based on ability and fitness. The entire ride is approximately 3-3.5hrs but there are many options to shorten this loop. Fenders are required

Hotel and travel in Victoria:
– Triathlon BC has amazing deals at the Accent Inn and Hotel Z for those athletes that are coming from out of town and need accommodations. Please contact Kelly@tribc.org as  by February 5th if you would like to take advantage of this great offer. Standard rooms, suites and suites with Kitchenettes are available.

– Transportation in Victoria will be the responsibility of the athletes. Victoria has a very good bus system; all buses are equipped with bike carriers on the front. As well, all training venues are within 15’ bike ride of the two sponsoring hotels.
– Athletes will be responsible for all their meals and nutritional needs
– An equipment list will be sent to registered athletes before February 8th.

$350
The camp includes all coaching and access to all venues (including pool entry)
Meals, accommodation, and travel expenses are the responsibility of the athlete.
