Media Support grant Overview
The Media Support Grant seeks to promote and amplify inclusive news, narratives and visuals from sanctioned events across BC. Triathlon BC believes that accurate and compelling media plays an important role in informing, engaging, and activating individuals to take part in multisport events across the province.
Triathlon BC’s Media Support Grant pursues the following objectives:
- Helps build strong, sustainable events regardless of participant size.
- Assists in capturing the excitement and diversity of multisport in our province through creative media activities.
- Promotes inclusivity and physical and mental health across a spectrum of participants.
- Showcases athleticism across every age group.
- Captures and highlights the local community and landscape.
The Media Support Grant has three strategic pillars:
- Increasing sustainability
- Participant Capacity building
- Building multisport awareness
Triathlon BC’s Media Support Grant services sanctioned events that have already retained, or plan to retain, the services of a social media blogger, event photographer, videographer, journalist or other media collaborators, including projects that produce and/or disseminate:
- Storytelling specific to multisport
- Provide training and mentoring storytelling for new participants
- Digital creatives that support the sustainability of an event
GRANT REQUIREMENTS
The Media Support Grant is offered to all sanctioned events across BC. Eligible events must have all outstanding event-related fees reconciled prior to grant submission.
Events with outstanding fees will not be considered.
GRANT ALLOCATION TERMS
In the spirit of fairness in the distribution of funds from the Media Support Grant, Triathlon BC may set priorities based on the following factors:
- Event Regions
- Type of media
- Type of project
Organizations managing the delivery of more than one event can apply for a maximum of three grants.
The Media Support Grant has 5 tiers of funding based on the average participation rates over the past two years, as indicated by the event’s Post Event Report:
- Tier 1 $250.00 – Events with fewer than 149 participants
- Tier 2 $500.00 – Events with 150 – 249 participants
- Tier 3 $750.00 – Events with 250 – 499 participants
- Tier 4 $1,000 – Events with 500 – 749 participants
- Tier 5 $1,500 – Events with more 750 participants
ELIGIBLE EXPENSES
Sanctioned events must consider the following eligible expenses when submitting their Grant request.
- Fees of contracted individuals responsible to carry out the various event-related media projects.
- Additional administrative expenses necessary for the completion of the media project .
- Travel expenses related to the media-related project.
- Promotional expenses.
Additional expenses may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF TRIATHLON BC SUPPORT
The recipients of the Media Support Grant must acknowledge the financial support made available by Triathlon BC. In addition to the acknowledgment above, the successful recipients must also feature the Triathlon BC link pointing to www.tribc.org.
Proof of these acknowledgments must be included in the grant’s final report.
GRANT FINAL REPORT
Media Support Grant recipients must submit a complete Post Event report as well as provide required supporting documents within 30 days of project completion in order to release grant funds.
The final report must include:
- An overview of how the grant funding was used.
- Access to all digital photography files. Files must not be water marked.
- Proof of acknowledgement of the support made available by Triathlon BC
The eligibility of a funding does not guarantee financial support.
