55+ BC Games Week Experience 

Attending the 55+ BC Games is more than just competing in your sport.  You become part of a community of participants.  Throughout Games Week there are a number of events that will give you the true “multi-sport Games experience”.  The following events are cornerstone to the 55+ BC Games experience. The BC Seniors Games Society Board of Directors sets the days for these events, including days of play for each sport.  The Host Society determines the location, content, format and finer details for each event.

Accreditation

Participant Accreditation is held on Tuesday and kicks off Games week. All registered participants are required to attend the Accreditation Centre to pick up their participant accreditation badge and package the day before competition in their sport begins.  Participants can make arrangements to designate another person to pick up their package.  All participants are required to have a participant accreditation badge in order to compete.  All registered supporters also attend the Accreditation Centre during the hours of operation to pick up their accreditation badge.

Games Village

The Games Village is held on Tuesday and is usually located in close proximity to the Accreditation Centre.  The Games Village is designed to showcase the host community with activities and local vendors.  It’s your introduction to the host community and all it has to offer.  Come enjoy the sights and sounds.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony is held on Wednesday evening.  The ceremony has traditional elements of a multi-sport Games and the host community will add their own particular flair with local entertainment.  The evening culminates with the official opening of the Games and lighting of the Torch.

Competition

Competition starts on Wednesday and depending on the sport, will run for 2, 3 or 4 days.  Get the most of your experience at the Games, cheer on the participants at another sport!

Multisport Events
  • Wednesday, September 11 – Sprint Triathlon (750m swim / 20km Bike / 5km Run)
  • Friday, September 13 – Duathlon (2.5km Trail Run / 1km Stand Up Paddle* / 2.5km Trail Run)

*Paddle Board provided to those that do not own a stand up paddle board.

All participants receive a schwag bag of Triathlon BC goodies, including a water bottle, swim cap and socks!

Participant Special Events

See more of what the local region has to offer.  It’s time to kick up your heels and enjoy the 55+ BC Games experience.

  • Thursday night event– is held on Thursday during the late afternoon to early evening
  • Friday night dance –is held on Friday night during the Games at 7:00 pm.  This event is restricted to registered participants and supporters with an accreditation badge.
Passing of the Flag Ceremony

Previously called the Closing Ceremony, the Passing of the Flag ceremony is held during the Friday night dance to provide an opportunity for more participants to be a part of the Ceremony.
