VANCOUVER, BC – Triathlon BC confirms 2025 World Championship Qualifiers. With an extensive lineup of 13 qualifying events, the most in BC’s history, and the highest number of qualifiers in Western Canada, 2025 promises to hold intense age group competition, as athletes compete for a coveted spot on Triathlon Canada’s 2026 Age Group World Championship Team!  Demand for qualification remains at an all-time high, with close to 1,400 athletes submitting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the 2024 season, featuring nearly 500 athletes flying the red and white of Team Canada across the two Championships.

Athletes will have the chance to qualify in nine disciplines, including Aquabike, Aquathlon, Cross (Off-Road) Triathlon, Standard Duathlon, Sprint, Standard, and Long Distance Triathlon, and the Mixed Team Relay. Each event represents an opportunity to earn the honor of competing on a global stage.

Triathlon Canada’s Age Group World Championship Teams are comprised of the nation’s top-performing athletes, selected from provincial qualifiers to showcase Canadian excellence in triathlon. Team members gain the unique privilege of competing under the Canadian flag, fostering a sense of national pride, camaraderie, and connection within the global triathlon community.

World Triathlon, the sport’s governing body, annually hosts the Multisport World Championships and the World Triathlon Championships at rotating international locations, attracting thousands of top-performing, destination-focused athletes.

MEMBERSHIP REMINDER

Athletes vying for Age Group World Championship spots throughout the 2025 season will be qualifying for Age Group spots for the 2026 World Championship:

Athletes who go on to earn an automatic spot at a designated qualifying event must also meet Triathlon Canada’s eligibility criteria, listed below.

  1. Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.
  2. IMPORTANT NOTICE – Must be a valid annual member of a Triathlon Provincial Sport Organization (i.e. Triathlon BC) PRIOR to the qualification event.
  3. IMPORTANT NOTICE – Must submit an Expression Of Interest (EOI) PRIOR to the start of the qualification event.
  4. Expression of Interest portals for each qualifying event will be available in December.

Note 1:  With limited age group qualifying spots available throughout Canada, particularly western Canada, expect events to fill early.  Early registration, where available, is recommended.

Note 2:  To be eligible to secure a World Championship spot, athletes must be members of their provincial triathlon association (i.e. Triathlon BC) PRIOR to competing in a qualifying event.

Note 3:  World Championship age-group qualifying results are categorized according to gender and age-adjusted to 5-year age brackets based on 2026 race age (i.e. 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc.).  Event results may differ from age-group qualifying results, as some athletes may move up an age category from 2025 to 2026. Qualifying events host one spot, per gender, per age group.

Note 4:  Under Triathlon Canada’s Expression Of Interest policy, rolldowns are permitted.
