BC X Tri Series Events

Welcome to the adrenaline-fueled world of the BC X Tri Series, a premier off-road triathlon series set against the breathtaking backdrop of British Columbia. The inaugural Series, featuring four iconic events, this Series combines heart-pounding trails, rugged terrain, and the unspoiled beauty of BC’s wilderness.
Whether you’re swimming through crystal-clear mountain lakes, powering down forested singletrack trails, or conquering elevation-packed runs, each race promises an unforgettable adventure. Designed for athletes of all levels, the Series offers the perfect mix of challenge and camaraderie, with courses that showcase BC’s most stunning landscapes.
BC X Tri Series Participants will earn points at each event based on their age group placings. To qualify for the series awards, athletes must complete a minimum of three, Triathlon BC sanctioned off-road races. Points from all four events will contribute to the final series standings, giving participants extra motivation to tackle every race in the Series. Plus, earn a one-time bonus of 20 points for volunteering at a participating race. The Series awards will be presented at the Whistler X Tri awards ceremony on September 14, 2025.

BC X TRI SERIES EVENTS
EVENT 1: The Squamish Off Road Triathlon, taking place on June 7th, is an annual event in Squamish, BC, featuring a lake swim, mountain bike, and trail run through picturesque Alice Lake Provincial Park. It offers different levels of challenge for participants, with both Championship, Sport and Relay courses available. EVENT 2: On July 6th, Vancouver Island plays host to the XTERRA Victoria, a challenging off-road triathlon and duathlon set at beautiful Durrance Lake in Victoria, B.C. This area is well known internationally as the home of the Mt. Work Mountain Bike Park and Partridge Hills, with great views and amazing trails. EVENT 3 BC CHAMPIONSHIPS: What makes Frontrunners Fit Chiropractic Dodge City X so epic is swimming, biking and running your way through some of the best singletrack in the world and finishing in the heart of Vancouver Island’s most kick-ass trail community. Why else might you race? Because of the rush. Because of the challenge. Because it feels pretty damn good to cross that finish line. EVENT 4: Whistler X Tri, taking place over the weekend of September 13 & 14, is a bucket list race in a World Class mountain resort town. The event boasts a beautiful lake swim paired with globally renowned single track mountain bike trails and some of the best trail running around. For those who are at their best when covered in sweat and dirt, the BC X Tri Series combines the West Coast’s most iconic off-road triathlons into one epic challenge. Test your skills and stamina, experience world-class destinations, and strive for the coveted series championship. Starting in 2025, it’s on.
How it works
To qualify for the awards, simply complete at least three of the four participating races. - Type: Opt for a lightweight hardtail or full-suspension mountain bike.
- Features: Durable frame, reliable shifting , tubeless tires for puncture resistance, and fast rolling tires.
- Accessories: A bike repair kit, spare tube, and portable pump for trail emergencies.
- Trail Running Shoes:
- Traction: Choose shoes with aggressive lugs for grip on mud, rocks, and loose dirt.
- Fit: Ensure proper fit to prevent blisters and provide stability on uneven terrain.
- Swim Gear:
- Wetsuit: A sleeveless or full-sleeve wetsuit designed for open-water swimming, offering buoyancy and warmth.
- Goggles: Anti-fog and wide-vision goggles for clear sighting in variable water conditions.
- Safety Gear:
- Helmet: A certified, lightweight helmet is crucial for safety during the mountain biking segment, and a requirement for racing!
- Protective Gear: Consider padded gloves.
- Other Essentials:
- Hydration System: Depending on environmental conditions, a hydration pack or bottle cage for easy access to fluids can be beneficial.
- Tri Suit: Top Off-Road athletes may use a breathable, quick-drying triathlon suit for comfort across all disciplines.
- Transition Bag: Organized compartments for seamless gear changes between swim, bike, and run.
Training
- Open-Water Swimming:
- Techniques: Practice sighting, drafting, and adapting to currents or waves.
- Simulation: Train in conditions similar to race day—cold water, waves, and group starts.
- Mountain Biking Skills:
- Technical Terrain: Master cornering, navigating obstacles, and climbing/descending steep sections.
- Endurance: Build stamina with long rides on trails, focusing on maintaining speed on varied surfaces.
- Bike Handling: Learn to quickly recover from slips and adjust your weight for better control.
- Trail Running:
- Varied Terrain: Train on hills, rocky trails, and uneven surfaces to strengthen stabilizing muscles.
- Intervals: Incorporate uphill sprints and downhill runs to mimic race conditions.
- Endurance Runs: Build your base with longer runs to improve stamina.
- Strength and Core Training:
- Focus on exercises like squats, lunges, deadlifts, and planks to develop the power and stability needed for off-road performance.
- Brick Workouts:
- Simulate race-day fatigue by practicing back-to-back sessions, such as biking immediately followed by running, to prepare your body for seamless transitions.
- Race Simulation:
- Periodically combine all three disciplines in training under conditions similar to your target event to build confidence and efficiency.
